Coquitlam, B.C. (Golf Canada) – Golf Canada in partnership with Canadian Pacific (CP) have announced that defending champion So Yeon Ryu will headline a list of seven past champions who have confirmed their intention to challenge for the US$2.25 million purse at the 2015 Canadian Pacific Women’s Open.
Currently ranked No. 7 on the Rolex World Ranking, Ryu played near flawless golf last August at the London Hunt and Country Club to capture the inaugural Canadian Pacific Women’s Open. A three-time winner on the LPGA Tour, Ryu’s 23-under tournament total in 2014 set a new event scoring record in relation to par.
Also confirming her intention to compete for Canada’s National Women’s Open title will be two-time champion Lydia Ko (2012 & 2013), the current World No. 2 who made history at The Vancouver Golf Club in 2012 when she captured her first LPGA Tour victory as a 15-year old amateur.
In addition to Ryu (2014) and Ko (2012 & 2013), other past champions set to compete include World No. 5 Suzann Pettersen (2009), World No. 8 Brittany Lincicome (2011), World No. 12 Cristie Kerr (2006), World No. 14 Michelle Wie (2010) and Katherine Hull (2008).
“We’re two months away from the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open and we are very pleased with how our field is coming together,” said Canadian Pacific Women’s Open Tournament Director, Brent McLaughlin. “We are fortunate to have a terrific history of champions and I know it will be especially exciting for Vancouver golf fans to welcome Lydia Ko back to The Vancouver Golf Club for the first time since her amazing win in 2012.”
Golf Canada also confirmed that 17-year old Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont. has been granted an exemption to compete in the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open. Henderson, a member of Golf Canada’s Young Pro Squad and currently the No. 51 ranked player in the world, will be making her fourth consecutive appearance in Canada’s National Women’s Open Championship. In her first year as a professional, the former World No. 1 ranked amateur has amassed $317,470 in LPGA earnings including $132,725 for her tie for 5th finish this past weekend at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
“Brooke has had an outstanding start to her pro career and it comes as no surprise that she has earned an exemption to compete in Canada’s National Women’s Open for the fourth time,” said McLaughlin. “She’s a special player and a terrific ambassador for Canadian golf and I’m sure she’ll be fan favourite once again at The Vancouver Golf Club.”
Henderson will lead a Canadian contingent that also includes four-time LPGA Tour winner and Canadian Pacific ambassador Lorie Kane of Charlottetown as well as LPGA Tour players Alena Sharp of Hamilton, Ont. Sue Kim of Langley, B.C. and Rebecca Lee-Bentham of Toronto.
Additional Canadian and international exemptions into the National Women’s Open Championship will be announced in the coming weeks. A field of 156 competitors will vie for the US$2.25 million purse when the CPKC Women’s Open makes its return to The Vancouver Golf Club.

CP EXTENDS SPONSORSHIP OF CANADIAN PACIFIC WOMEN’S OPEN THROUGH 2018
Two-year extension on title sponsorship of Canada’s National Women’s Open Championship further solidifies CP’s support of Canadian golf
Vancouver, B.C. (Golf Canada) – Canadian Pacific (CP), Golf Canada and the LPGA Tour announced today that CP has extended its title sponsorship of the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open for an additional two years, through 2018. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
As title sponsor of the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open, CP is committed to raising charitable dollars in the event’s host community through the CP Has Heart campaign in support of children’s heart health. Extending its title sponsorship through 2018 will allow CP to increase its charitable support of children’s heart health in the name of Canada’s National Women’s Open Championship.
“CP is proud to extend its partnership with Golf Canada as title sponsor of the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open and looks forward to continuing to make a difference in the host communities across the country,” said CP’s CEO E. Hunter Harrison. “Our support of the National Women’s Open has become a cornerstone of our community investment program, CP Has Heart, through which we have assisted a number of heart healthy programs from coast-to-coast.”
CP assumed title sponsorship of Canada’s National Women’s Open in November, 2013 with the inaugural Canadian Pacific Women’s Open conducted at London Hunt and Country Club in London, Ont. in 2014. This year’s 2015 Canadian Pacific Women’s Open will be played August 17-23 at The Vancouver Golf Club while the 2016 event will return to the Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club in Calgary.
“On behalf of Golf Canada, the LPGA Tour and Canadian golf fans from coast to coast, I want to thank CP, and especially CEO Hunter Harrison, for continuing to align their respected brand with our National Women’s Open Golf Championship,” said Golf Canada CEO Scott Simmons. “CP has become a driving force in supporting Canadian golf and we are thrilled to continue our partnership on the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open through 2018.”
In addition to its title sponsorship of the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open, CP has also partnered with Golf Canada in support of the National Amateur Team program – Team Canada – as well as Canada’s National Amateur Championships. As part of its investment in Canadian golf, CP has also aligned its brand with the Golf Canada Foundation in becoming a Founding Partner of the
Team Canada Young Pro program which launched in 2014 and currently support six of Canada’s top up and coming professionals.
The $2.25 million USD Canadian Pacific Women’s Open is a premier event on the LPGA Tour schedule which draws arguably the strongest field on the Tour.
“For our players, this championship has become a must-play event with great hospitality as well as great history,” said LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan. “Our success is based on partnerships and I’d like to congratulate both Canadian Pacific and Golf Canada on this two year title sponsorship extension. With CP’s help, we’re proud to continue showcasing the LPGA Tour to millions of golf fans in Canada, across North American and around the world.”

Among those in the five-way tie for second that year was World Golf Hall of Fame member Karrie Webb, who claimed victory in 1999 when Priddis Greens hosted the LPGA Tour for the first time.
“It is an honour to welcome back the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open to Priddis Greens Golf & Country Club, Calgary and the province of Alberta,” said Rod McBride, President of Priddis Greens. “Hosting the CPKC Women’s Open provides us with another opportunity to showcase our course as one of the premiere golfing experiences in Canada and to further demonstrate Calgary’s love of the game.”
The Vancouver Golf Club in Coquitlam, B.C., will play host to the 2015 edition of the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open. Canada’s National Women’s Open Championship will be contested August 17-23. BC Children’s Hospital named official charity partner for 2015 Canadian Pacific Women’s Open
– CP sets a target of $1M to be raised over the summer for pediatric cardiac research and care –
Coquitlam, BC. Canadian Pacific (CP) and Golf Canada today announced that BC Children’s Hospital has been chosen as the charity partner for the 2015 Canadian Pacific Women’s Open (CPWO). The CPWO will see the top LPGA Tour players in the world compete for the national title at the Vancouver Golf Club in Coquitlam from August 20-23, 2015.
Funds raised will be dedicated to the pediatric cardiology research program for BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) Heart Centre. Last year alone, BC Children’s cardiac surgeons performed 337 heart procedures, including 201 open heart surgeries.
“We are seeing incredible work being done in the area of pediatric cardiac care and research at BC Children’s Heart Centre,” said Canadian Pacific CEO E. Hunter Harrison. “By leveraging our CP Has Heart community program and the generosity of our employees, golf fans and supporters of the hospital, we have set a $1,000,000 fundraising target that I know we’ll achieve – but let’s work together to exceed it.”
“We are delighted to be the official tournament charity for the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open,” said Teri Nicholas, president and CEO of BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. “CP’s support for our pediatric cardiology treatment and research programs will ensure that children with heart disease, whether they are from BC, the Yukon or elsewhere in Western Canada, will always receive outstanding care and benefit from the latest research when they turn to BC Children’s Hospital for help.”
CP announced that, beginning today, it will match all online donations made to BCCH until the end of the CPWO tournament. Other fundraising initiatives will involve LPGA Tour players, club members and fans through CP’s Birdies for Heart challenge, something LPGA athletes, including CP ambassador Lorie Kane, embraced at the 2014 CPWO.
“CP does a tremendous job of creating an exciting atmosphere over the week and certainly a huge draw for players and spectators alike is the Birdies for Heart Challenge on the 17th hole,” said LPGA Tour player Lorie Kane. “Feeling the energy from the CP Fan Zone when you’re standing on the tee gives you even more incentive to play the hole well and get a birdie, especially knowing you are directly contributing to the funds available for helping sick children.”
Golf fans attending the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open can upgrade their general admission tickets for the CP Fan Zone, which includes premium seating, healthy treats, player meet and greets and giveaways. Proceeds from CP Fan Zone tickets will go directly to BCCH and CP has also pledged to match funds from all Fan Zone ticket sales as part of its commitment.
CP is also extending its fundraising efforts off the course and into the community to promote the importance of keeping fit. The railroad will also match all donations made to Grouse Mountain’s annual fundraiser Grind for Kids which already benefits BC Children’s Heart Centre.
“Canada’s National Women’s Open Golf Championship is about making this great sport, and the professionals who play it, accessible to the host communities and leaving a legacy,” says Scott Simmons, CEO of Golf Canada. “CP is a tremendous partner, and they continue to show their heart and commitment to the communities we play in. We are looking forward to a great week in Vancouver, a market that has always supported golf. The Vancouver Golf Club is an outstanding course and will provide a stiff test to the best golfers in the world. ”

CHILDREN’S HEART HEALTH WINS BIG AT THE CANADIAN PACIFIC WOMEN’S OPEN
Canadian Pacific donates $1.1 M to the Children’s Health Foundation in support of paediatric cardiac research and care for children in London and across Southwestern Ontario.
London, Ont. (Golf Canada) – The Canadian Pacific Women’s Open ended today, and kids living with heart disease had something more to celebrate than just So Yeon Ryu’s big win. Canadian Pacific (CP) is pleased to announce they will be making a cash donation of $1, 100,045 to the Children’s Health Foundation to support continued world class research and treatment for children’s cardiac care at Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC).
“We’re so happy that our CP has Heart program gift will positively impact the lives of children with heart disease in London and throughout Southwestern Ontario,” said Canadian Pacific CEO E. Hunter Harrison. “Through the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open we’re helping to ensure that the leading edge paediatric cardiology program at Children’s Hospital continues to advance children’s cardiac research and care for years to come.”
To celebrate this significant milestone, the paediatric cardiac program at Children’s Hospital will be renamed the Canadian Pacific Centre for Paediatric Cardiac Care. CP’s gift will be put towards expanding the program’s capabilities through the purchase of paediatric-specific stress testing equipment, which will help with research and improve the quality of life of patients as they mature into adulthood.
“On behalf of the London Health Sciences Centre, I want to thank CP for this incredibly generous – and incredibly important – donation,” said Laurie Gould, Chief Clinical Officer, London Health Sciences Centre. “Today 90% of infants born with complex heart defects reach adulthood as compared to just 20%, sixty years ago. With CP’s help, we’re looking forward to further improving that figure through innovative research into the prevention of congenital heart disease.”
A second component of CP’s gift will be put towards establishing a cardiology research fund, called the Canadian Pacific Research Fund for Paediatric Cardiac Care. The fund will support research to advance knowledge in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of children with cardiac-related health issues.
“We are so grateful to receive this generous donation from CP through their program CP Has Heart,” said Susan Crowley, President and CEO of Children’s Health Foundation. “CP and Children’s Health Foundation clearly make excellent partners, with a mutual passion for improving the health and well-being of children and supporting their families through the delivery of exceptional care and leading edge research.”
The newly named Canadian Pacific Centre for Paediatric Cardiac Care at Children’s Hospital in London is a world-class facility with cardiologists that are on-call 24/7 for patient families to call with questions or concerns. The paediatric cardiology service sees over 3,500 patients each year – patients like nine year old Rachael Wright.
Within hours of her birth, Rachael was fighting for her life. Diagnosed with pulmonary heart dysfunction and congenital heart defects, Rachael has been under the care of the cardiology team at Children’s Hospital her entire life and today enjoys being active in gymnastics and dance.
“Twenty to thirty years ago, Rachael may not have made it,” reflects Rachael’s father Chris Wright. “It’s only thanks to the research and attentive care provided at Children’s Hospital that Rachael is alive today and is a happy and healthy little girl.”
The 2014 Canadian Pacific Women’s Open in London, Ontario is the first of three tournaments that CP will serve as the title sponsor. Every year, CP and Golf Canada will commit to a charitable component linked to the tournament as it moves to communities around the country.
“Golf Canada is thrilled to have been a part of such a big win for children’s heart health at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open in London this year,” said Scott Simmons, CEO of Golf Canada. “Everyone has rallied around CP’s fundraising, particularly the players who embraced the Birdies for Heart challenge on the 17th Green. The end result is a memorable experience for everyone involved.”

SO YEON RYU WINS 2014 CANADIAN PACIFIC WOMEN’S OPEN
Brooke Henderson earns low Canadian and low amateur honours finishing tied for 46th
Canadian Pacific donates $1.1 million to Children’s Health Foundation in London
LONDON, Ont. (Golf Canada) – After a two-year wait that included 27 top-10s since her last win, So Yeon Ryu broke through Sunday at the inaugural Canadian Pacific Women’s Open, holding off one of her best friends Na Yeon Choi (21-under) by two shots with a 3-under 69 to get her to 23-under-par for the championship.
“I’ve been waiting and wanting it so much that I really cannot feel anything right now,” said the 24-year-old South Korean. “It’s always good to be the champion.”
Ryu’s 23-under tournament total is five shots better than the previous Canadian Women’s Open record in relation to par. Meg Mellon held the previous record at 18-under set in 2004 at Legends on the Niagara in Niagara Falls, Ont.
Despite holding the competitive course record at London Hunt and Country Club (63) and the Canadian Women’s Open record, Ryu was slightly disappointed she was unable to threaten Annika Sorenstam’s LPGA Tour record of 27-under.
“Yeah, I’m a bit disappointed I couldn’t reach the record but it still feels good,” she added. “ I still have the tournament course record, and it still feels really great.”
With the victory, Ryu picks up her third career LPGA Tour win and first since the 2012 Jamie Farr Toledo Classic. Her 23-under total ties the best score in relation to par on the LPGA Tour this season.
Inbee Park finished alone in third at 18-under-par and celebrated Ryu’s third career win on the 18th green by helping to shower the champion with champagne once the final putt dropped.
“I’ve been waiting so long for the champagne,” Ryu added. “I was ready to get champagne. I put champagne on Inbee maybe four more than five times, but finally she gave it to me so it feels great.”
Canadian amateur sensation and Team Canada member Brooke Henderson won low amateur and low Canadian honours – winning the Marlene Streit and Sandra Post Awards. After missing the cut at the past two Canadian Women’s Opens, the Smiths Falls, Ont. native made it four for four in 2014 LPGA cuts made with a final round 1-under 71 to finish T46.

London, Ont. (Golf Canada) – So Yeon Ryu not only has the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open’s scoring record of 18-under in sight, she’s got the LPGA Tour career 72-hole scoring record of 27-under – held by Annika Sorenstam, Hee Young Park and Angela Stanford – shaking at this point after a 5-under 67 Saturday has her at 20-under-par 196 through 54 holes at the London Hunt and Country Club in London, Ont.
Ryu’s owned the 54-hole lead three times before. Twice it resulted in a win at both the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open and 2012 Jamie Farr Toledo Classic. But she’s never led by this much at this point, owning a four-shot lead over close friend Na Yeon Choi and Azahara Munoz, who sit at 16-under-par 200.
“I think my lowest record was 29-under when I was 16 at the Asian Games so if I have a chance, I want to break my current record. Also if I can, I want to break another LPGA Tour record,” said Ryu, when discussing the possibility of setting the 72-hole scoring record. “Amazing that these girls played so well. Also, if I am going to win this tournament, it is going to be even more of an honour.”
Munoz made an exciting charge up the leader board on moving day, firing a 9-under 63 to vault into contention. Her 63 ties the London Hunt course record set by Ryu during Thursday’s opening round and gives her plenty of confidence heading into Sunday.
“I had so many chances and then I made a lot of putts,” said Munoz about her course-record tying round. “Obviously I knew with a 9-under, I was going to be pretty up there (on the leaderboard). I’m going to focus on myself and see where that takes me.”
Inbee Park sits alone in fourth at 14-under 202 while Anna Nordqvist rounds out the 54-hole top five at 13-under 203.
Canadian amateur sensation and Team Canada member Brooke Henderson of of Smiths Falls, Ont. sits as the top Canuck through 54 holes as her round of 1-under 71 puts her T41 at 4-under 212 for the championship. Henderson’s National Team teammate Jennifer Ha of Calgary shot a round of 1-over 73 to sit T60 at 2-under 214. The duo will battle for the Marlene Streit Low Amateur Award on Sunday.
Team Canada Young Pro Squad members Jennifer Kirby of Brantford, Ont. (1-under 215) and Sue Kim of Langley, B.C. (1-over 217) sit T66 and T80 respectively heading into final round action. The LPGA Tour rookies are both challenging for the Sandra Post Low Canadian Award as well.

London, Ont. (Golf Canada) –So Yean Ryu fired a bogey-free 9-under 63 to set a course record and take the opening-round Canadian Pacific Women’s Open lead at London Hunt and Country Club.
With her opening-round 63, Ryu sets the new competitive course record at London Hunt and Country Club. The previous course record 8-under 64 was tied by Na Yeon Choi earlier on Thursday during the opening round.
Ryu’s 9-under 63 ties the lowest score relative to par at the Canadian Women’s Open previously set by Song-Hee Kim in 2009, who shot 9-under 62 at Priddis Green Golf and Country Club.
“I heard it’s the low score for the first round, so I feel really great about that,” Ryu said. “When I was warming up [today] my shots were really bad, so I had zero expectation…but I played really well, so I’m really happy with what I did.”
As a 2-time winner on the LPGA Tour Ryu, ranked No. 9 in the world, carded nine birdies Thursday. She currently holds a one-stroke lead over Choi heading into second–round action.
Ryu has come close to winning this season, posting nine top-10 finishes. Her season best finish was a second place result at the Marathon Classic in July.
“You know, if you think about like positive way, it could be. If I think about really like negative way, I’ve fail so many times, but at the same time I’ve learned so many things, so I think this kind of things bring me to more bigger things,” Ryu continued.
Anna Nordqvist sits in solo third after a 7-under 65. Azahara Munoz, Danielle Kang, Xi Yu Lin and recent major champion Inbee Park sit three back in a tie for 4th at 6-under-par.
Two-time defending champion Lydia Ko opened with a 2-under 70 and currently sits in a tie for 34th after the opening round.
Canada’s Jennifer Kirby of Paris, Ont. leads the way for the Canadian contingent after posting a 5-under 67. The Team Canada Young Pro Squad member carded five birdies in her bogey-free opening round playing alongside Canadian amateur sensation Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont. and Toronto’s Rebecca Lee-Bentham.
